What Annexation Is, Does and Requires

Today, there are no public water mains or fire hydrants along the section of SE May Valley Road we are proposing to annex. The purpose of the proposed annexation is to include the area within King County Water District No. 90's service boundary so future public water system improvements may be considered if supported by property owners and if funding becomes available. The proposed annexation shall be known as the "SE May Valley Road Annexation." The proposed annexation area consists of approximately 234 parcels totaling approximately 32 million square feet of land and an assessed valuation of approximately $260 million, according to the records of the King County Assessor. Potential future benefits of annexation could include:

  • Extension of public water mains into the area
  • Installation of fire hydrants to improve fire protection
  • Future opportunities for voluntary connection to public water service
  • Improved emergency response capabilities and community resilience

By signing the petition, you are supporting inclusion of your property within the District's service area. You are not agreeing to connect to public water service, pay connection fees, or construct improvements at this time. The annexation itself does not create any new property taxes. Upon annexation, all property within the annexation area shall be subject to the rates, charges, assessments, indebtedness, resolutions, and regulations of King County Water District No. 90 in the same manner as properties currently located within the District. Property owners would retain the ability to continue using their existing wells unless future health, regulatory or development requirements dictate otherwise.

Washinton law requires support from property owners before an annexation can move forward. The District must obtain signatures representing at least 60% of the assessed value of the properties within the proposed annexation area. The District has to collect the required signatures by DECEMBER 31, 2026. PROPERTY OWNER PETITION FOR ANNEXATION

The proposed annexation shall be known as the: "SE May Valley Road Annexation"

The undersigned property owners hereby petition for annexation of the territory described herein into King County Water District No. 90, a Washington special-purpose water district organized under Title 57 RCW. This petition is submitted pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 57.24 RCW, using the property owner petition method for annexation into a water district. The undersigned petitioners respectfully request that the Board of Commissioners of King County Water District No. 90 accept and approve this annexation petition and proceed in accordance with applicable provisions of Washington State law.
