DEFINITION: Temporary Help performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks in the maintenance of District assets and facilities including trimming around water meters, replacing water meters, hydrants and other structures; maintenance, painting or repair of District grounds; may operate trucks, mowers, lawn trimming equipment, and other maintenance equipment; assignments involve the safe use of a variety of hand and power tools, complete forms and write simple reports on work, time, and material used, and perform related work as required. Work may be performed in inclement weather for extended periods of time and hazardous locations such as street areas, ditches, and confined spaces.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Any one job position may not include all the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.)
Perform manual labor tasks that are unskilled or semi-skilled in nature; operate related motorized equipment or hand tools required to complete a task.
Must be able to respond effectively and courteously with customers and others in crisis and/or stressful situations.
Responsible for developing safe work habits and contributing to the safety of self, co-workers, and the general public.
Paint Fire Hydrants, PRV vault piping and other surfaces needing painting.
Sweep and clean storage areas and equipment; wash and maintain overall cleanliness of District vehicles and equipment; perform landscape maintenance activities.
Record daily work activities on work-order forms; complete trip tickets and material usage forms.
Experience and Training:
General experience within a construction environment with knowledge of maintenance and landscaping; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities described below.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of basic types of tools and their appropriate usage; knowledge of standard safety procedures; skills in the use of light maintenance landscaping equipment; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing; ability to work effectively with employees and the general public.
Possession of a valid Washington driver’s license. The ability to bend, stoop, crawl and work in restricted areas, ability to lift equipment and materials weighing up to 70 pounds, and ability to work in varied weather conditions.
Other Job Functions:
Perform other related duties as assigned.
In emergency situations must be willing to work any hours as needed. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. May be required to lift tools, equipment, or materials weighing over 70 lbs.
